In a 6th grade English class this week the teacher showed a slide of two men. She wanted the students to tell her what they observed in the photo. One boy said that one man was wearing "old man shoes". I had to say something given that I was older than any six of these kids put together. So I yelled out "I take exception to that." And, at about that time I lifted my leg to show the entire class the shoes I was wearing that day. As they all gazed at the end of my leg, the entire class laughed. Pointedly, the boy responded with something like "I rest my case."
